NET 12: Module 1.2 - Music: I Want My Mp3 - Part 1

What role does music play in your life and does it mesh with any of the practices and meaning described in the readings?

I'm never without some form of music whether its on my Mp3 player, on my computer or in a movie. The readings make mention of the fact that many people used music as a background whilst they do other things, I find it almost impossible to concentrate on something without music playing in the background. I find that it helps to create a barrier between myself and the outside space helping me focus on what I'm doing.

Are your tastes shared with other people or groups that you are in contact with?

With the people I know there is like a collection of music genres and bands that are common ground and beyond that it's pretty much individual taste.

How do you usually 'pick up' a musician/band or song?

I listen to the Internet radio and every now and then there's a song that I haven't heard before that really takes my fancy so I usually Google it to find out more about the band. Otherwise someone usually mentions a new band that they're interested in whilst we're in the middle of a Dynamis run in the MMORPG that I play and after the run I usually Google the band to find out more.

Do you download music, watch videos with music, reveal your tastes in online profiles and applications?

I do download music, a lot of the bands that I've come across you just can't get in a music store in Australia. When I'm finding out about a new band I'll immediately hit YouTube to have a listen and see if I want to get their stuff.

I don't usually reveal my tastes in online profiles and whatnot since they more often then not ask for your favorite band and/or genre and I don't have a favourite. I have several different playlists that have several different genres and bands that are played dependant on my mood.
